final; reflection

for this final we knew we wanted to do something with water, but we didn't know how to show it so we decided to research and found water balloon shots and we tried to emulate that. We took the pictures in the back of the school we had troubles capturing the exact moment when the water ballon explodes but we managed it at the end. I really liked the final results it was the greatest final ever.

feminicidios summery

For more than a decade, the city of Juarez, near the US-Mexico border, has been a killing field for young women, the site of nearly 400 unsolved murders and many more abductions. Despite the horrific nature of these crimes, authorities at all levels exhibit indifference, and there is strong evidence that some officials may be involved in the crimes. Impunity and corruption has permitted the criminals, whoever they are, to continue committing these acts, knowing there will be no consequences.

biography

ROGER BALLEN

Born on 1950 in New York City, Roger lives and has worked for thirty years in Johannesburg. For him photography is a way to express himself and a way to express other peoples feelings, he photographed civil rights activists and Vietnam War protesters of the 1960’s. He attended the University of California – Berkeley and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in psycology. His work can be seen at the museum of Modern Art and Victoria and Albert museum. Roger Ballen has had exhibitions at the National Library of Australia and University of Auckland, New Zealand.

I choose Roger Ballen as my inspiration because when I see his work I see what I expect to see in my pictures. His work is unique , it’s not the typical pretty picture you see everywhere, his pictures are weird, abstract, they tell a story and they have a dark feeling which is mainly why I choose him because I want all my pictures to be dark.

proposal

Proposed by: Azhalia Diaz

Project title: Feminicidios

Class: senior art studio

Instructor: Mrs. Miles

Project due date: 01/31/2011

Project description:

For this project I’m going to show how women are being horribly massacred in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua in Mexico, just because of the fact that they are women.

Type of work: dark, black and white, moody

Concept: I will be taking pictures of how the process is, first the girls disappear, they rape them, torture them, kill them and finally throw them into the woods like garbage.

Vision: I would like the viewers to realize what a horrible problem is going on and no one really cares, I want them to walk out of my work with a different vision.

Inspiration: My inspiration is the fact that this i s going on in Mexico and no one reacts to it almost every day in the news there is a dead body found or another missing girl and people in Mexico is so used to it now that its just another news.

Equipment to be used: 35mm digital camera
